Why Herat Is One of Afghanistan's Greatest Historical Cities

Ai Khanoum: The Easternmost Greek City on the Silk Road
Ai Khanoum, often called the "Lady Moon" in the local Uzbek language, stands among the most remarkable archaeological sites in Afghanistan. Situated approximately 67 kilometers north of Taleqan and near the confluence of the Oxus (Amu Darya) and Kokcha Rivers, this ancient city represents one of the easternmost outposts of Hellenistic civilization.

The Republic of Uzbekistan is one of the most populous State of Central Asia. Being located in the central part of Central Asia, Uzbekistan forms the center of gravity of Central Asia. In the north it borders with a large tract of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan in the east, Tajikistan in the south east, a little corridor of land in the south with Afghanistan and large western border with Turkmenistan. The people of Uzbekistan called Uzbeks, speak Uzbek language which is part of Turkic group of languages.
